The Role of a Civil Marriage Celebrant
A Civil Marriage Celebrant is appointed by the Australian Government's Attorney General's Department and is authorised to solemnise marriages anywhere in Australia in accordance with the Marriage Act, 1961.
Although, traditionally, marriages have taken place in religious establishments, Civil Marriage Celebrants offer you a professional option. A civil marriage ceremony can be as equally emotional, extremely professional and sensitive and, above all, comprise of your wishes for your special day.
Additionally, a Civil Marriage Celebrant, in most cases ,will accommodate your choice of location for the marriage ceremony thus giving you total control of this special occasion.
Choosing your Marriage Celebrant
Civil Marriage Celebrants are professional people who will ensure that your Special Day is one to be remembered, however it is important that you make the right choice. Much is said about "new age celebrants" which really states that they have undergone professional training under the appointment system. Many of the long established and experienced celebrants, like myself, have undergone these qualifications to ensure that we are up to date with every modern aspect of our profession.
It is recommended that you base your decision on professionalism and not price. It does not mean that the dearest is best and conversely it doesn't mean that the cheapest is either. You should choose two or three celebrants if you are shopping around and then arrange to meet with them to see first hand how they operate and what they offer for their fee.
There is also the choice between male or female Marriage Celebrants and there are excellent ones of either gender.
