Marriage Celebrant Training And Courses

I have been a Marriage Celebrant for fifteen years and have been a celebrant trainer for the past four years.  I was one of only twelve trainers approved by the Attorney General’s Department after exhaustive examination, to present the three hour compulsory unit for the 2007/2008 year – “Establishing that the proposed marriage will be valid”.
I have pleasure in listing below the courses/products I offer to ensure that you can continue to be a professional Marriage Celebrant.

Celebrant Refresher Training

Many celebrants are being trained today in classes that exceed twenty and even up to sixty.  They are being trained by trainers who have little, and in many cases no, experience as a Marriage Celebrant.  Their full initial training is being crammed into two and a half days and that half day is spent looking at other things other than marriage celebrant responsibilities. After that they are expected to complete all their assignments without much support. The refresher training that I offer is over a two day weekend with a maximum of fifteen in attendance. The first day is spent entirely on our legal responsibilities, interviewing couples and the legal content of marriage ceremonies.  Some comments from this session so far include, “I have learned more today than I did in my entire course”.  On the Sunday we discuss public speaking and role play rehearsing a wedding ceremony and all the things we need to do on the day as well as recapping the legal requirements.  It is a full on weekend but one from which you will derive great pleasure.

On-going Professional Development Training (OPD)

You are more than aware of your obligations to undergo five hours of On-going Professional Development each year.  The AG’s sets down a compulsory topic (normally and hour or two) and then you would make up the balance of five hours with other topics that you have not attended in the last five years.  Although I am an accredited OPD trainer I use material provided to me by Australian Celebrations Training who are the Registered Training Organisation (RTO).  I will be providing dates for the coming new celebrant year by the end of August, once I know what the Attorney General’s Department has set down for the compulsory unit.  For the current year you MUST remember to purchase the DVD “When Words are not Enough” from CanPrint and that will give you two hours.  Your presence at the conference this weekend will give you the three hours needed to complete the five required.

Funeral Celebrant Training

My funeral courses are held at Burwood (Sydney) but I am more than willing to arrange training outside of Sydney if numbers permit.  So if you have some friends and would like to perhaps arrange for me to do that please let me know.  The Funeral Ceremony course is two days in the classroom and a day in the field.  That day in the field involves a visit to a crematorium for a tour behind the scenes.  The knowledge of this helps you to answer the questions often asked by grieving families who worry about bodies being taken out of coffins etc.  We then borrow a chapel where students perform a mock funeral which they have put together based on a scenario we provide.  We video the service and review it at the end.  This course is a National Recognised Training Course.  Again, this is done in conjunction with Australian Celebrations Training.  Maximum of ten students.

Personal One on One Training

I appreciate that group refreshers are not everyone’s cup of tea.  I am also available at an hourly rate to conduct a one on one refresher training with any individual.  This would be a minimum of four hours and can be conducted at your home or my office.

Products Offered To Enhance Your Professionalism

Marriage Celebrant Manuals

A manual designed to assist all Marriage Celebrants regardless of experience.  It is in two parts:

Each manual has an index for quick reference:
Part 1 – Legal Information
Part 2 – Procedures Guide

The manual is provided in two four ring binders big enough to allow you to add other information yourself.

CertPrint/MarriageCertPrint

This software package is very popular with celebrants all over Australia.  Not only can you overprint your Marriage Certificates (Form 15) professionally you can also overprint any other certificate such as baby naming/re-affirmation/commitment etc.  You can use any fond that exists within your computer and once the setting as saved they are saved.  See me this weekend for a demonstration.  For those living outside of NSW I also have MarriageCertprint available to print the Certificate of Marriage (form 16) and the Declarations on the reverse (Form 14) which saves a lot of writing.  If you do not need a full on data base system why spend $400 just to print your certificates!

Improve Your Presentation

These are personalised folders in which you can present your marriage/naming/re-affirmation/commitment certificates or copies of your wedding ceremony or funeral service to your couple or bereaved family.  These are a must to see.  They can be printed on your own computer/printer and the personalised way is only limited by your imagination.  They are cost effective and are not available anywhere other than through Keith Lammond.  Take a look while you are at the conference and take advantage of the special offers.
